This project is aimed at creating an environment for reproductive issues to be responded to in the Northern states of Nigeria. It involves development of leaders for reproductive health, establishing or refurbishing RH centers and creating demand for services in Reproductive Health/Family Planning in hard to reach areas through leadership consensus building, forming and mentoring groups, providing reproductive health service, integrated leadership development program for community leaders and religious leaders.

This project involves selecting leaders from “all walks of life”, equip them with reproductive health knowledge, develop their leadership skills and encourage them to form groups and become advocates for RH of women, young people and the family. This intervention is aimed at developing leaders who will promote positive reproductive health in the society. The Leader in RH training started 3 years ago and has reached 10 states to date, namely Kano, Kaduna, Katsina, Jigawa, Bauchi, Gombe, Sokoto, Zamfara, Kebbi and Borno. Four states (Kano, Katsina, Kaduna and Jigawa)were piloted in the first phase with a two year grant and this renewed project has reached six more states (Borno, Gombe, Bauchi, Zamfara, Sokoto and Kebbi). Other objective of this project is to integrate reproductive health service delivery through establishment of model health centers for comprehensive primary health care targeting families on hard to reach areas.
