AHIP Centre, Kano

The AHIP offices in Kano offer a wide range of services for young people and women in northern Nigeria.  These include:

Youth Friendly Services

AHIP Youth Friendly Services provide young people with the space and confidentiality they need to tackle any medical, psychological or social problems they may be facing.  At AHIP, young people can receive guidance and counseling in a safe and friendly environment, medical treatment for minor ailments, and if necessary, obtain referrals for hospital treatment.

AHIP library

This well-stocked resource centre provides a wide range of literature and materials on sexual and reproductive health, gender and rights issues, puberty, child spacing etc.  It is open on a daily basis, from Monday to Friday, 9:00 – 17:00.

AHIP Internet Café

Here young people can learn basic computing skills on state-of-the-art computers, browse the internet at their leisure and find more information and resources on issues that concern them.

Daycare Centre

AHIP provides modern daycare facilities for children from the ages of three months to three years at a subsidized rate, allowing their mothers to take advantage of the vocational skills training, and to provide financially for their families.

Vocational Training Centre

For the last decade, the AHIP Vocational Training Centre has provided disadvantaged young men and women with the opportunity to learn vocational skills such as carpentry, weaving, sewing, knitting, soap & pomade making, and welding.  Moved to brand new facilities in 2006, the centre has helped thousands of young people become financially self-sufficient.  Participants are also taught basic literacy and small-scale business development.  Once they have mastered the various levels of their trade, they are issued with certificates at AHIP’s colorful annual graduation ceremony.

Institute for Human Development

In this newly built centre, AHIP offers a wide range of workshops and facilitations, such as Leadership for Reproductive Health, the Continual Learning Programme and Livelihood Skills Development. Information is given on topics that cover health, gender issues, sex and sexuality, self-esteem, negotiation and communication skills and more.  Young people both in and out of school are trained in peer health education (PHE), communities are educated on reproductive health (RH) and religious and traditional leaders are informed about issues concerning sexual and reproductive health and gender.
